Evaluation of Fracture Parameters by Coupling the Edge-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method
This paper presents a technique to evaluate the fracture parameters by combining the edge based smoothed finite element method (ESFEM) and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). A semi-analytical solution is sought in the region close to the vicinity of the crack tip using the SBFEM, whilst, the ESFEM is used for the rest of the domain. As both methods satisfy the partition of unity...
متن کاملModel Refinements of Transformers via a Subproblem Finite Element Method
A progressive modeling of transformers is performed via a subproblem finite element method. A complete problem is split into subproblems with different adapted overlapping meshes. Model refinements are performed from ideal to real flux tubes, 1-D to 2-D to 3-D models, linear to nonlinear materials, perfect to real materials, single wire to volume conductor windings, and homogenized to fine mode...
متن کاملAnalysis of Axisymmetric and Non-Axisymmetric Stretching of Sheet Metals by the Finite Element Method
Stretching process of sheet metals in both cases of axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric is analyzed. A rigid-plastic, normal anisotrop material is assumed and large strain formulation is applied. Triangular elements are used and stiffness equations of elements are obtained from virtual work principle. These nonlinear equations are linearized by Newton-Raphson's method and are solved by Gaussian e...
متن کامل3D Finite Element and Mixed Finite-Boundary Element Method for the Magnetic Field Analysis of Power Transformers
Power transformer analysis and design focusing on the equivalent circuit parameter evaluation by magnetic field numerical calculation is presented. Two kinds of numerical techniques are examined: the threedimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM), adopting a particular reduced scalar potential formulation and the 3D mixed finite element-boundary element (FEM-BEM) method. The methods are vali...
متن کاملA Proposed Modeling Method in Finite Element Slope Stability Analysis
Limit-equilibrium method (LEM) and finite element method (FEM) with strength reduction method (SRM) techniques are the most widely used analysis tools in slope stability assessment. Recently, researchers have reported that both factor of safety (FOS) values and failure surfaces obtained from LEM and FEM are generally in good agreement, except in some particular cases. In this paper, the FOS and...
